Step-by-Step Hajj Guide

    A comprehensive guide to prepare you spiritually and practically for the sacred pillars of Hajj.

    1. Day of Tarwiyah (8th Dhul-Hijjah)

    Pilgrims enter the state of Ihram, declare their intention for Hajj, and travel to the tent city of Mina. The day is spent in prayer, reflection, and preparation for the days ahead.

    Key Actions:

    • Perform Ghusl and wear Ihram
    • Make the Intention (Niyyah) for Hajj
    • Recite Talbiyah continuously
    • Travel to Mina
    • Pray Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha, and Fajr in Mina

    2. Day of Arafah (9th Dhul-Hijjah)

    The most important day of Hajj. Pilgrims travel to the plains of Arafah for intense prayer and supplication. After sunset, they move to Muzdalifah.

    Key Actions:

    • Travel from Mina to Arafah after sunrise
    • Listen to the Khutbah and pray Dhuhr & Asr combined
    • Engage in intense Du'a until sunset (Wuquf)
    • Leave for Muzdalifah after sunset without praying Maghrib in Arafah
    • Pray Maghrib and Isha combined in Muzdalifah
    • Collect pebbles for stoning

    3. Yawm al-Nahr (10th Dhul-Hijjah)

    The day of Eid al-Adha. Pilgrims return to Mina to perform the first stoning, animal sacrifice, and shaving/trimming of hair.

    Key Actions:

    • Travel from Muzdalifah to Mina before sunrise
    • Stone Jamarat al-Aqabah (the largest pillar) with 7 pebbles
    • Perform the animal sacrifice (Qurbani / Hady)
    • Shave head (Halq) or trim hair (Taqsir)
    • Remove Ihram and wear regular clothes (First Tahallul)

    4. Tawaf al-Ifadah & Sa'i

    Pilgrims proceed to Makkah to perform the obligatory Tawaf of Hajj and Sa'i between Safa and Marwah.

    Key Actions:

    • Perform 7 circuits around the Kaaba (Tawaf al-Ifadah)
    • Pray two Raka'at behind Maqam Ibrahim
    • Perform Sa'i between Safa and Marwah
    • Return to Mina
    • All Ihram restrictions are now lifted (Major Tahallul)

    5. Days of Tashreeq (11th-13th Dhul-Hijjah)

    Pilgrims stay in Mina and perform the stoning of all three Jamarat (pillars) on each day.

    Key Actions:

    • Stay in Mina for 2 or 3 days
    • Stone all three Jamarat each afternoon (Small, Medium, Large)
    • Use 7 pebbles for each pillar (21 pebbles per day)
    • Engage in continuous remembrance of Allah (Dhikr)
    • Leave Mina before sunset on the 12th or stay until the 13th

    6. Farewell Tawaf (Tawaf al-Wida)

    Before departing Makkah, pilgrims perform the Farewell Tawaf around the Kaaba, marking the completion of their Hajj journey.

    Key Actions:

    • Perform 7 circuits around the Kaaba
    • This is the final act before leaving Makkah
    • Make final Du'as and seek Allah's acceptance
    • Depart Makkah with a purified heart
